Bungus Valley — untouched alpine meadows, ancient deodar forests, and skies that stretch beyond imagination. 2,000m above sea level, far from the crowds.
About the Valley
Nestled in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir, Bungus Valley remains one of the least-explored paradises in the entire Himalayas. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense conifer forests, and rolling meadows carpeted with wildflowers, it's a place where time stands still.
Unlike the touristy Dal Lake or Gulmarg, Bungus has preserved its pristine character. The valley spans roughly 50 square kilometers and is home to traditional Gujjar and Bakarwal communities whose way of life remains unchanged for centuries.
Snow leopards, brown bears, and hundreds of migratory bird species call this valley home.
Wildflower meadows bloom from May to September with over 100 documented species.
Crystal clear streams, open meadows, and starlit skies make it perfect for camping.
The surrounding peaks remain snow-capped throughout the year, creating breathtaking views.
The pristine streams are teeming with brown and rainbow trout, a fly-fisher's dream.
Multiple trekking trails connect Bungus to Lolab Valley, Handwara, and beyond.
